Celebrating Hispanic Heritage with Latino Leadership Connect

There are moments in life that remind us why community is everything and the Patchogue Hispanic Heritage Celebration was one of those moments.

It was such an honor to support Latino Leadership Connect, an organization that is so dear to my heart. They are always showing up for our comunidad here on Long Island, lifting up families, creating opportunities, and celebrating our heritage in ways that bring us all closer together.

I attended with my fellow Latina Moms Connect volunteers, and from the moment we walked into the Patchogue Theatre, the energy was electric. Everywhere I looked, there were familiar faces — local business owners, families, friends, and even legislators. It was beautiful to see so many people come together to honor Hispanic Heritage Month.

A Night to Remember

I was blessed to score VIP tickets, which meant we had access to the upstairs reception. And let me tell you — the food was out of this world! Each dish was from local restaurants, and every bite felt like a little love letter to our culture:

  • The flavorful arroz con pollo from El Matador
  • The fall-off-the-bone ribs from Ruta Oaxaca
  • Street corn from Dirty Taco
  • A crisp and fresh salad from Jardín Café

¡Delicioso!

Everyone came dressed to the nines, radiating orgullo and elegance. The entertainment, hosted by Eklipz Entertainment, kept the energy flowing all night long. Performers from different cultures filled the stage, reminding us how diverse and vibrant our community truly is. Music, dance, and laughter wove us all together into one big familia.

Community at its Best

What touched me most was seeing how many local sponsors and organizations came together to make this event possible. Everywhere I turned, I saw familiar names: Gala Foods, En Vivo Radio, Gallo, El Matador, Jardín Café, Dirty Taco, Tiesto Restaurants, Bravo Supermarkets, La Liga de Justicia, 212 Carrion, and so many more. Their collaboration was a beautiful reminder that when we support each other, our entire community rises.

Honoring Community Leaders

One of the most powerful moments of the evening was celebrating the honorees who work tirelessly to uplift our community. I was especially moved by the speech given by Osman Canales. His dedication to advocating for Latinos is unparalleled. Osman is never afraid to raise his voice against injustices and the atrocities happening to our people right now. Hearing his words filled me with pride and gratitude. Leaders like him remind us that change begins with courage and corazón.

Another honoree, Dafny Irizarry, President of LILTA (Long Island Latino Teachers Association), continues to make an incredible impact through her work in education and leadership. Her passion for empowering students and elevating Latino representation in schools inspires so many. Both of these leaders embody what it means to serve with love and purpose.
