Thanksgiving in Dominican Republic

Thanksgiving dinner: Camp David Ranch Santiago, RD

Arrived in Santiago:

Do you ever feel overwhelmed with cooking Thanksgiving dinner? Just do what we did and leave the country!! We decided to take the whole crew away this year. We traveled 10 deep including grandkids and two bonus children! My grandson Jackson’s birthday happened to be that day. What a perfect birthday gift. An experience instead of a gift he will get tired of. We left Thanksgiving morning. I know it sounds crazy but hear me out. The airport was empty! We got though security in record time! Even the drive there was easy. We flew into Santiago smoothly. We stayed in an Airbnb run by Wilton’s Airbnb Rentals. Look them up for many choices to stay all over the country.

Where to eat dinner fit for a birthday party?

We needed a nice place for dinner since we were celebrating. My daughter’s client mentioned Camp David Ranch. He had his wedding there and said it was the place to go! We were able to make a reservation online. When we arrived, we asked our taxi driver about it. He said we should definitely go there. He mentioned it has the best views of the city! He offered to drive us there. It is a very steep drive due to it’s high elevation. It was about a 20 minute drive from our place. The driver wasn’t kidding about how steep it was!

Amazing views!

The views were magnificent! You really can see the whole city. Our reservation was for 7:30. It was already dark so the city was all lit up. It wasn’t crowded which was great. We were greeted by a lovely hostess who sat us at the perfect spot with an amazing view! We passed a micro wedding on the way. What a beautiful wedding. The tablescape and cake were impeccable. So classy with rustic charm.

What we ordered:

We started off with drinks. A bottle of white wine was called for after spending the day traveling. My daughter had the lime margarita which was also yummy. We were too hungry to space out our meal so we ordered apps and dinner together. It worked out better so the kids didn’t have to wait to eat their meals.

45 oz Tomahawk at Camp David

The first thing we ordered was the 45 oz Tomahawk. It was delicious! It was cooked medium and they brought out a table top grill to finish it off for those that preferred it cooked longer. It had the perfect amount of char with a nice and juicy center.

I ordered the Maduro Gnocci. Did you ever hear of such a thing??? It was so yummy! It was a great representation of our family. Perfect blend of Dominican and Italian.

My son got the Chofun with shrimp. That rice was perfection! What deep flavors with a nice crunch. I wanted to eat all of it!

Hubby ordered the Seafood Risotto. He LOVED it. Loaded with his favorite Langostinos and a rich, creamy rice.

Last but certainly not least was dessert. They made my grandson’s birthday so special. They played a great birthday song. Look at this face with that huge, Fried Ice cream!
