My son decided to take me to Miami for my birthday! How lucky am I??? We brought along my daughter, niece. It included floor seats to the 2022 Iheart Fiesta Latina. It was a short trip but so fun! We landed in Ft Lauderdale and picked up our ride. Yes, it was a Porsche! Nothing but the best for my son!!
If you haven’t rented from the Toro app, you should give it a try. It’s a way to drive a luxury car for sometimes less than standard rental.
We were starving so we set off to find our first meal in Miami. We decided on
1.The Chicken & The Egg. It did not disappoint! I had the hangover burger. Sooooo good. Super juicy, especially when you break open that perfectly cooked egg! The drinks were great too. The place is not too big and gets crowded, which is always a good sign! Outdoor seating helps. If there is a line, wait! It will be worth it. It happens to be close to some shops too. We only took backpacks. No carryons! Which means we needed beach towels. Grabbed some cute ones at Ross which were left behind at the hotel as a gift to someone!
Then off to the hotel so we can hit the beach ASAP! We picked the Spring Hill Suites Downtown/Medical Center. I was a little worried about not being on the strip but it was the best decision. We were centrally located for everywhere we wanted to go hang out and the airport. Plus it was quiet and has parking. the rates were half the price. The hotel itself was clean and had many amenities including a full bar for late night drinks!
The hardest thing about Miami is the parking. There is no where to park for free. Especially if you’re driving a Porsche! And it’s costly depending on the time of day. Most times it was $25 and up. And one day we did it twice! But sitting on the beach, baking in the sun was worth it!
We found it on Saturday on Calle Ocho. Plenty of spice there! The art you see everywhere is breathtaking. The whole neighborhood is splashed with color! The buildings all have murals painted on them. Even the floors are painted. We met my brother and the family for lunch. They live in Florida and we don’t get to see them often.
3. Mofongo Restaurant was to die for! Check the Appetizer platter!
We were full before lunch. And then lunch came!
I had the Mofongo Mixto. In perfect Miami fashion, this was a work of art! The restaurant is super popular so call ahead. The service was fantastic. If you’re lucky enough to go on your birthday, they will sing you the most fun version of happy birthday!
The last meal was on the way to the airport.
5. El Rey De Las Fritas was the perfect meal to end our trip. We all got the Frita Cubana. It is a cuban burger topped with crispy shoestring fries. Mine was the Frita al Caballo. It had that perfect egg over the burger.
We ate so much all weekend, but i have to say the best thing I had wasn’t even food. It was the coffee! Have you had a Cuban coffee ever? OMG you have to try one. But it has to be authentic. I am on a quest to find some on Long Island. If you have any suggestions, send them my way!
