How to make Dominican Spaghetti

Today I’m bringing you an icon of Dominican culture. A dish that shouts Dominican Republic with every bite: Dominican Spaghetti (Espaguetis Dominicanos).

You might be thinking, “Wait, isn’t spaghetti Italian?” And you’re right. The world knows it as an Italian classic, but in the Dominican Republic, we’ve made it our own. We add sazón, fresh vegetables, and that unique Caribbean flair that turns a simple pasta into something truly special. It’s comforting, flavorful, and 100% nuestro.

Some Dominicans serve it with garlic or buttered bread, while others take it a step further. Making a sandwich stuffed with red spaghetti! It may not be the healthiest, but ay Dios mío, it’s delicious.

Why Dominican Spaghetti Is So Loved!

  • Made with tomato paste instead of sauce, giving it a rich, bold flavor.
  • Seasoned with Dominican sazón for that signature depth.
  • Filled with fresh veggies like bell peppers, onions, and cilantro.
  • Sometimes finished with evaporated milk or cheese, for a creamy, tangy balance.

This dish isn’t just food, it’s a memory. You’ll find it at birthday parties, family gatherings, and especially on beach days, packed in a cooler right next to the tostones. It’s quick, easy, and brings everyone together around the table.
